Welcome to Architecture

Our strong traditions of drawing, model-making, community outreach/service learning, and hands-on construction prepare our students to explore innovative models of architectural practice as well as to engage non-traditional means of building delivery, such as design-build and digital fabrication.

Penn State's five-year professional Bachelor of Architecture program prepares students to contribute in innovative ways to the practice of architecture. Students explore learning in traditions of drawing, model building, fabrication, hands-on construction and computation. This provides our students with an intimate knowledge of materials and building processes. In addition, they explore non-traditional means of building delivery, and community outreach. All fourth-year students study abroad at our Rome, Italy program located in the Piazza del Collogio Romano.

Penn State’s Professional Master of Architecture helps students prepare to become leaders in the profession of architecture. Students enroll in a two-year core curriculum that prepares them with techniques, principles, histories, theories, and technologies related to the discipline. In the final year, students have the opportunity to complete advanced research. This program is a companion to our nationally ranked, 102-year-old accredited bachelor of architecture program.

Penn State’s Post-Professional Master of Architecture track is intended for students with professional degrees in architecture. This research-intensive graduate track supports the following research clusters: "Culture, Society, Space," "Design Computing," "Material Matters," and "Sustainability." Teaching and research assistantships are available to a select group of outstanding students. Recipients are awarded full tuition grants and a stipend.
